The 10th Sangyaw Awards was held at Robinson’s Place Activity Center on June 26, 2018. This awards night is an annual event that recognizes group or individuals that has imparted significant contribution to the society. It also acknowledges group or individuals that has made remarkable achievement and stirred impact not just for Tacloban City, but also for the Eastern Visayas Region as well.
KBOX STUDIOS received a special citation for its unwavering commitment and dedication in supporting the Arts, Music, & Literature of Region 8. The award strongly recognizes KBOX as a leading provider of equal opportunities to homegrown talents.
Arch. Kendel Esperas also received a special citation being a celebrated artist in the field of music and composition. The award also distinguishes the big boss of KBOX Studios Production and Art Gallery, as a singer and composer in pursuit of the Visayan Pride. The award additionally cites excellence in promoting culture and the arts reflective of the values and heritage of the region.
These citations inspire us the most. It adds up to the motivation in continuing the advocacy that KBOX STUDIOS stands for. We will go on with our intentions in providing opportunities to homegrown and undiscovered talents all across the Eastern Visayas Region.
Our heartfelt gratitude to the Sangyaw Foundation and the Local Government Unit of Tacloban City. These awards humble us.
With or without recognition though, KBOX STUDIOS exist solely for the betterment of this drive. We strongly believe in the Waray-Waray talent. We will never stop believing and dreaming to put our region in the national stage. As for now, we serve as a platform for local Arts, Music, & Literature so to commit our resources in the proper direction.
KBOX STUDIOS include KBOX Art Gallery – intended for local visual artists within the region. Every month an artist or an organization of artists is featured. Artists coming from all across Region 8’s boundaries have displayed their works with us. The gallery also serves as a hub in staging spoken poetry particularly SIDAY. It is also a venue for recitals and other seminars pertaining to arts and music.
In February 2018, KBOX launched KBOX RADIO. Aired live from 7-9PM every Sunday at 95.1 Bombo Radyo Tacloban, its purpose is to provide an avenue for SIDAY; as well as writers and literarians to have their works heard. It also promotes music composed by local songwriters from within the region also including original music sent by songwriters from the region who are now residing/working abroad. Hosted by Bombo Jorgebulb and Bombo Cindy, the radio program also provides information about the cultural heritage of the region including the history of its people.
KBOX added another avenue for local artists. It is a partnership with PRTV-12 Tacloban City. KBOX TV is a multimedia venture of KBOX Studios that first appeared on June 23, 2018. The show is attached to the station’s PASUNDAYAG program aired every Saturday from 1-3PM and hosted by Arch. Kendel Esperas himself. — It highlights personalities that embody the Arts, Music, and Literature of the Eastern Visayas Region. A platform aimed to represent an individual or a group that has stirred interest in the society and their respective communities in general. It is envisioned to document artists, composers, musicians, literarians, historians, including academes that has shaped the existence of our heritage as of at present.
KBOX TV will feature both the existing and new talents. It will also recognize works from the region’s ancestral past and promote the campaign to document unwritten and lost records that are considered vital in the Waray-Waray heritage.
